As Lil Durk’s trial approaches, new developments continue to emerge. On Monday, June 2, court documents revealed that the Attorney General of the United States has instructed prosecutors in California not to pursue the death penalty against the 32-year-old Chicago rapper.
Lil Durk was arrested last October and is awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, also known as Lul Pab, who was the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo. Prosecutors claim that Durk paid five men to travel to California to kill Quando Rondo, but the attempt instead resulted in the death of Lul Pab at a Beverly Hills gas station. Durk faces multiple charges, including murder-for-hire and using firearms in a violent crime that resulted in death. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Bond Denied Again
Lil Durk has repeatedly tried to secure release on bond before his trial. Most recently, his legal team proposed a bond package including nearly $900,000 in property equity, $1 million in cash, third-party guarantees, home detention, and round-the-clock security monitoring. However, the judge denied this request last month.
Durk has pleaded not guilty to all charges and will stay at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center until his trial. Originally set for January 7, the trial is now scheduled to begin on October 14.
