Pusha T has opened up about several major topics in a recent interview, including Drake’s lawsuit over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, his complicated relationship with Ye, and how a Kendrick Lamar feature led to his departure from his record label.
Drake’s Lawsuit Over Kendrick Lamar’s Diss
In a new GQ interview published on June 2, Pusha T discussed the ongoing drama surrounding Drake’s decision to sue Universal Music Group for defamation in connection with Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track, “Not Like Us.” Pusha T was candid in his response, expressing disappointment in Drake’s actions.
“I don’t rate him no more,” Pusha said. “The suing thing is bigger than some rap stuff. I just don’t rate you. Damn, it just kind of cheapens the art of it once we gotta have real questions about suing and litigation. Like, what? For this?”
On His Relationship with Ye
Pusha T also addressed his current relationship with Ye, following a name-drop in the new Clipse song “Ace Trumpets.” He described Ye as a genius, particularly praising his intuition, but admitted that their relationship has soured.
“He’s a genius. And his intuition is even more genius level,” Pusha said. “But that’s why me and him don’t get along, because he sees through my fakeness with him. He knows I don’t think he’s a man. He knows it. And that’s why we can’t build with each other no more. That’s why me and him don’t click, because he knows what I really, really think of him. He’s showed me the weakest sides of him, and he knows how I think of weak people.”
Kendrick Lamar Feature Leads to Label Departure
Pusha T revealed that Kendrick Lamar will be featured on the upcoming Clipse album on a track called “Chains & Whips.” However, this collaboration came with challenges. According to Pusha, his former label, Def Jam, requested that Kendrick censor his verse or that the track be removed entirely. Pusha refused both demands, which ultimately resulted in Clipse and Pusha T being dropped from the label. This led to a new distribution deal with Roc Nation, which was announced earlier this month.
Upcoming Clipse Album
Clipse is set to release their first album in 16 years, titled “Let God Sort Em Out,” on July 11. The project is executive produced by Pharrell and will feature guest appearances from John Legend, Stove God Cook, and others.
